When I designed The Strange Artefacts of Wisteria Hall, I had envisioned it as a solo player game; after all, Carta, the system it is based on, is designed specifically for solo play. However, I was asked to demo it some events ago for a small group, and on the fly, I came up with some multiplayer rules. I've explained these new rules verbally to people who visit my booth at markets, but for posterity, and for players' future reference, here are the multiplayer game modifiers for Wisteria Hall.

Multiplayer rules

  • I recommend a cap of 3 Treasure Hunters in the Hall for best playing experience.

  • Setup: Solo Wisteria Hall has a 5x5 card grid, built from the Mansion Deck (23 Room Cards + Entrance & Exit). In Multiplayer, extend the grid to 6x6 (34+2 cards in Mansion Deck) or 7x7 (47+2 cards in Mansion Deck), depending on how many Hunters are playing, or how long you'd like the game to be. Watch out; if you run out of cards in the Spare Deck, Rooms no longer respawn.

  • Winning Conditions: Treasure Hunters in Solo Wisteria Hall must retrieve 4 Artefacts or uncover all rooms before they may exit the Hall. In Multiplayer, the game turns competitive. The Treasure Hunter who exits with the most artefacts wins the game.

    • I.E. Bree finds four artefacts, but succumbs to the Hall before they can find the Exit. Alec, on the other hand, finds two artefacts, and also successfully escapes the Hall.

    • Although Bree found more artefacts than Alec, Alec wins this game as Bree could not escape.

  • All other rules remain the same.
